# How rewards work

> Recognize the common competition earning models before you participate.

Every competition page names its reward model, token or currency, eligibility,
cadence, and settlement behavior. The common models are winner-held emissions,
incentive-proportional emissions, and ranked prize pools.

Winner-held emissions reward the active winner over time. Incentive-proportional
emissions distribute ongoing rewards across active participants based on a
performance curve. Ranked prize pools divide a defined pool among final ranked
finishers.
