# Payouts, refunds, and claims

> Follow an earned item from availability through a completed claim or refund.

An earning becomes a usable payout only after the competition finalizes it. A
payout or refund can be unclaimed, prepared, submitted, claimed, or forfeited,
depending on the available claim action and its deadline.

Earning a reward and completing settlement are separate events. Keep the
wallet funded and ready when the competition requires a claim, and complete the
claim before the disclosed window closes.

If a race is cancelled, a confirmed entry may become eligible for a refund
under that race's policy. Check the payout item rather than assuming every
attempt is refundable.
