# Nodes and research history

> How experiments and analysis form a readable workflow history.

Nodes are the milestones in a workflow. Experiment nodes connect a hypothesis
to a version and evaluation; analysis nodes preserve a finding, decision, or
review without pretending it was an evaluation.

Nodes can have parents, branches, and a selected main path. Scores attach to
the evidence-producing experiment node; analysis may carry context forward but
does not create a score by itself.

Use a short title that names the change or finding, and link each experiment to
the prior node it actually tested. This keeps the history useful when several
candidate approaches are active at once.
